De Dutch Oven is een Nederlandse uitvinding. Een multifunctionele, gietijzeren pan. De Dutch oven heeft zijn naam dan ook te danken aan dat hij eenvoudig te gebruiken is als oven door de pan van boven én onder te verwarmen. Dit kan zowel met hout, houtskool of briketten zijn. De pan is geheel gemaakt van gietijzer waardoor de Dutch Ovens te gebruiken zijn op iedere warmtebron. Gietijzer heeft de eigenschap dat het warmte goed geleidt en bovendien lang vasthoudt. Zet de pan direct in het vuur, op een vuurtafel, in je vuurkorf of op de barbecue. Bij gebrek aan droog weer buiten kun je de pan zelfs binnen gebruiken op je gasfornuis of in je oven. Je kunt de Dutch oven dus gebruiken om te bakken en te braden, voor het maken van stoofpotten, het bakken van taarten, brownies, ovenschotels etc. Met olie erin kun je zelfs oliebollen bakken.
